Sunset Schooner Sail in Key West

Key West Schooner Sailing at Sunset

Key West Schooner Sailing at Sunset

Don't miss an opportunity to sail back in time aboard a classic Schooner sailing ship in Key West! Rediscover old world sailing on this romantic 80’ Caribbean coastal sailing ship -- the same kind used by infamous pirates, rum runners, and those who first sought the freedom and solitude of the Florida Keys hundreds of years ago. Not your every day Key West Sunset Sail -- this is a pure sailing adventure!

Bring your own food and drinks, and be transported to a time when sailors were one with the ocean. Join the crew and hoist the sails, or just sit back, relax and take in the experience. Revel in the moment as the magnificent red sails capture the wind and the Schooner sails off to a place time forgot.

While you’re sailing, be on the look out for all the amazing Key West attractions and wildlife. See dolphins, turtles, and man o’ war jelly fish as you sail near Fort Zachary Taylor, picturesque Sunset Key, and the world famous Christmas Tree Island from the decks of the pride of Key West sailing ships, then watch, wave and smile as other vessels sail in close to give their passengers a glimpse of the magnificent sailing ship with it’s distinctive red sails and tall square rig.

When you pass by famous Mallory Square under full sail, cameras will flash and throngs of land lovers will cheer. The ship presents a memory of a lifetime from the decks of Key West’s most photographed sailing schooner.

Finally, as you sail into the glorious Key West sunset, scan the horizon for the world renowned Key West Green Flash!

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if it rains?
The boat will run in all light weather conditions (a little rain never hurt anyone!). In the rare event that there is a cancellation due to severe weather, you will have the opportunity to reschedule your tickets subject to availability.

Can children go on the sail?
Your guides love children! Children are more than welcome to attend the sail. Children between 4 and 12 years of age have a reduced ticket price, and children 3 years of age and under are free but must secure a ticket.

How far will the boat go out?
The boat will go anywhere between 2 and 3 miles out on the water depending on the day's weather.

How fast does the Schooner go?
The Schooner goes on average at a speed ranging from 7-10 knots.

Can I bring a personal cooler/ice chest with me?
You may bring a small personal cooler (the size of a knapsack or picnic cooler), but please do not bring any large coolers with you. There are ice chests on board for you to store your food and beverages in!

What should I wear on the sail?
It is advisable you wear layers, as it is often cooler out on the water than on land. If you get warm, you can always peel off a layer or two!

Are there bathrooms aboard the schooner?
Yes, there are two clean heads (bathrooms) on the schooner for your use.

Do you have life jackets on board?
Yes! The boat is US Coast Guard certified for safety, and has life jackets on board for each and every passenger. However, you are not required to wear the life jackets during the trip!

Will I get seasick?
Probably not. Luckily the Key West waters are friendly and typically not very choppy, and the crew does a fantastic job navigating out of the extremely windy areas. If you do get seasick, you will be seated at the steering section and that should help. If you have a tendency towards motion sickness, please take preventative measures beforehand.

Should I tip the crew?
Gratuities are not mandatory but greatly appreciated! Your crew works very hard to ensure that your sail is a superior experience. If you enjoyed the sail, please tip the crew accordingly!
